Bucktail - choose option/color
Bucktails come in a large variety of sizes, and the grading system from one processor to the next can vary drastically. We use a fair amount of bucktail for our own tying, so we’ve seen the best and the worst. We’ll do our very best to be transparent, honest, and upfront about the size of each tail, length of fibers, amount of fibers, etc. And, spoiler alert, there’s much more coming!
Hareline’s “Petite” Bucktails are smaller tails but still very nice considering the price. Unless you’re tying a pattern that absolutely requires the longest of fibers, these Petite tails will suffice for 75% of the patterns that call for bucktail - as well as tail flags and dressed plug hooks. These tails are absolutely perfect for teasers, clousers, and flags.
Hareline’s “Large Northern” Bucktails are Hareline selected higher quality, without the expensive price tag of #1 Select Grade. Available in a large variety of colors, but there will always be some color and size variation tail to tail.
Spirit River’s “UV2 Select” Bucktails from tend to be similar quality to the “Large Northern” grade from Hareline. The colors from UV2 are particularly nice! Generally these are more consistent quality/size than the “Larger Northern”, but there will still be some variation.
