Bucktails - 'Dink' size 365 LureCraft deer tails

Frustrated with the quality and consistency of the deer tails coming through the big distributors, we found ourselves knee deep in the bucktail world. We’re sourcing these tails from a variety of vendors around New England and beyond. Each and every tail that bears the 365 LureCraft name has been personally processed, inspected, graded, and dyed in-house (even the white tails are getting cleaned and brushed after they’re dried).

Just like catching a dink on the water, these “Dink” sized tails nothing to scoff at. We try to maintain high standards as we process and grade our tails. Because let’s face it, lack of consistency and quality is the problem with some of the other bucktail brands, right?

Here are a few notes on our grading standards…

  • “Large” tails are average to above average tails with hair 3”-4.5” long. Some “Large” tails might appear small at first glance, but have very long hair fibers. Other tails might have average length hair fibers, but be over-sized tails. The vast majority of our tails fall into this “Large” category, but we’re confident they are nicer and larger than the so-called ‘large’ coming from the big distributors

  • “Select” tails are above-average, even by our standards. For a tail to fit into the “Select” category, we’re looking for hair fibers 4.5” or longer, larger overall size, full hair, and just a tail that makes us say “yeah, that’s a nice tail!”. This Select category makes up a small portion of our overall deer tail inventory, but we’re confident that you’ll be impressed with the size and quality that we deliver for the price point.

  • “Premium” tails are the best of the best tails. These are the top 1% of the tails we see every year. Hair fibers are very long, overall size is way above average, and we don’t get very many of these at all. If you’re checking out this category, it will show as Out Of Stock pretty often, so you’ll need to check us out on Instagram and Facebook for when we’re releasing a batch of these.

  • “Dink” tails are those that couldn’t quite make our standards to be considered Large. Usually it’s because one of us was a little careless with the knife and turned a nice looking hide into a deformed or crooked tail. Many of these “Dinks” are really nice and full tails but just don’t quite look good enough to go on a retail shelf. Again, we’re grading and packaging these by hand, so we’re confident these will easily over-deliver when you put ours side by side with any smalls/petites on the market.

Just a few notes on bucktails before you go… Yes, these are natural products, literally from the butt of a whitetail deer. There will be variations in size, hair length, color, texture, and more. We do our very best to ensure quality and standards, but please let us know if you feel like you received less than you paid for. Also, because these are processed and packaged in-house, there can be a slight odor and sometimes moisture within the tail. We would rather package tails that have a little life left in them, as opposed to putting them in a commercial dryer and making the finished product virtually unusable.

Most of our tails are packaged with desiccant cards to prevent moisture and mold, but we recommend proper care to prevent issues. Be sure to close the bag tightly when storing your tails. Store in a cool, dry place. If grease or mold does appear on the hide, wipe with Dawn or degreaser, then dry and store properly.
